City Oasis by the Moat: Relax, Walk, and Discover Suan Buak Haad Park in Chiang Mai

Situated in the southwest corner of Chiang Mai’s Old Town inside the old moat, Suan Buak Haad Park—also known as Buak Hard Park—is downtown Chiang Mai’s only public green space. Open daily from 05:00 to 21:00, it offers a peaceful refuge amidst bustling streets

The park features three large ornamental ponds surrounded by a paved 440 m walking loop, shady trees, fountains, and charming white bridges. This idealized-natural layout encourages leisurely strolls, gentle exercise, and casual relaxation

Local residents and visitors alike enjoy a variety of activities here: jogging, tai chi, yoga, or watching spirited Sepak Takraw games. The park also includes outdoor fitness stations, a children’s playground, and a basketball court—a hub of community life and movement

Inside the park you'll find a small cafĆ© offering coffee, smoothies, and light snacks, plus vendors renting bamboo mats (around ฿10–15) for lounging on the grass or by the pond. Visitors can also feed koi fish or pigeons using food purchased on site. There’s even a massage kiosk for a budget-friendly treat

Every February, Suan Buak Haad transforms into the centerpiece of Chiang Mai’s Flower Festival, hosting spectacular floral displays, garden design contests, and themed floats. Even outside this event, the manicured gardens and blooms offer a serene and photogenic setting year-round
