Wiang Pa Pao covers parts of tambon Wiang, and Mae Khachan covers parts of tambon Mae Chai. There are a further seven tambon administrative organizations.



Wiang Pa Pao was one of the mueang in northern Thailand. In 1905 the District Wiang Pa Pao was merged with Mueang Phong and renamed Mae Suai, while the central area of the old mueang kept the name as the minor district (King Khwaeng) Wiang Pa Pao. In 1907 it was upgraded to a full district.

Cosmos sulphureus is a species of flowering plant in the sunflower family Asteraceae, also known as sulfur cosmos and yellow cosmos. It is native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, and naturalized in other parts of North and South America as well as in Europe, Asia, and Australia.



The perfect addition to any sunny meadow or garden, Sulphur Cosmos light up the mid-season garden, blooming a stunning orange and yellow all the way into the fall. Sulphur Cosmos are extremely easy to grow in any region and attract a variety of hummingbirds and butterflies to the garden. The bright blooms also make for gorgeous cut bouquets!



More bushy plants and somewhat smaller yellow (to orange) semi-double flowers. It's often called "Sulphur Cosmos" or "Orange Cosmos," and an old variety with particularly glowing orange blooms is called "Bright Lights."


When the spring-planted cosmos appears to have an abundance of dried seeds, do not remove the plants. Encourage re-bloom by cutting the plants back to 12 to 18 inches high. They will be back in bloom in a month and the seed that is cut off will fall to the ground, germinate in the hot soil, and increase the density of your plant population and the eventual bloom display.


Cosmos sulphureus is a prolific seed-producing annual herb considered native to Mexico and northern South America. It grows to two meters tall, and sports very attractive heads of yellow flowers. There are numerous popular cultivars of C. sulphureus in the international horticultural trade, resulting in its wide and intentional spread by humans.


The species has been known to escape cultivation and naturalize. It is recorded as an environmental weed and occasionally as an invasive plant in parts of Africa, Asia, North, and Central America, and the Pacific Islands through details of impact are lacking.

The Wat Mahawan is a very attractive temple just outside the old walled town. It houses several beautiful Lanna style halls and a Burmese style chedi.
Wat Mahawan or at that time called Wat Mahawaram, built around 1,200 in the Buddhist century.

Wat Mahawan was built in the 1870s and is a small temple on the Tha Phae Road near the gate.











This is one of those smaller, unassuming temples that has a quiet serenity to it. There were no tourists inside, so we were able to wander around at a leisurely pace and really feel the peacefulness.

Great place for an out of town trip from Chiang Mai. Take some food with you and enjoy the sun ☀️ set. Most days people come to enjoy the nice atmosphere around that time.

One of my favorite places in chiangmai..as i have much memories here.

Nice view point from the top of the dam. Please note that the google navigation might lead you to a wrong location. To get there, you will need to pass through a gated area with green sign showing “Man Dam & view point”.

Beautiful spot to ride to on ebikes. Tours here guided by experts in ebiking, SurRon, Rydeculture etc etc. Lovely jungle trails for experienced trail riders and beginners alike. Great sunsets here and a couple of good seafood restaurants on the lake shores. Highly recommended by ebikeCNX and the group riders.

On a fine day you get great views across the lake to the mountains beyond as the sun shines from behind you as you face the Dam. Views into the valley not so good as you face into the sun. Beware if following Google Maps as will ring you to a closed off road on the West side of the Dam. I had to double back and found the correct route through the National Park entrance on the East Side. Water level is quite low at the moment as you can see clearly from Drone photo.

It's beautiful beyond words and definitely worth visiting! There are no tourists at all, and the scenery is very shocking! However, there will be some problems with Google's navigation. It took us a long way, and when we found it impassable, we spared ourselves a long way to find our way. In short, here, you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery in Chiang Ma

This place is such a gem out in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are so comfortable and spacious, there is a pool and restaurant and bar that serves great food. The staff are so friendly too and professional. A great place for parties or just time out of the city 😊


Such a great and beautiful place to feel the jungle vibes but in such a nice place. They were so welcoming and allowed us to have so much fun and invite many friends for great party vibes and space for dancing and disco!!!! They make great mojitos☺️☺️



Lovely resort with modern 2 story rooms/apartments. Set on a hill with a pretty pool and bar/restaurant area next to it. The lushness of the gardens and smart landscaping actually allow the rooms to be located close to each other without getting the feeling that it is crowded.
Good food (both Thai and western).
Lovely helpful staff.

Big national park in this area, weather is cool all year round. Winter and the rainy season is the best time to visit this place. You can come for a day trip or a stayover. Please keep this place nice and clean.



Amazing sea of clouds at sunrise. To be able to witness this spectacular view, you have to camp overnight on one of those campsites at the summit which are all reachable by car, there are basic restaurants, coffee shops, and a few street vendors. It can get extremely cold and windy at night, right down to 4 degrees for our visit. This place is famous for its strong wind "Nam Dang" means Loud Water, the wind sounds like water rushing through stream at night. We rented the national park tents which are only available at campsite E (West facing so you got to see Sunset but have to do a short drive for sunrise). The tent is very basic, some got holes in them and are not windproof at all. All other camping gear (except the tent) is available for rent at the main office with small fees, they will hold your ID as a deposit until you return the items.



You guys who love nature, quiet and peaceful gonna love here. This is the place that I love the most about my CNX trip. You'll feel like you're part of nature, I can see every beautiful star clearly in the night 360 views, a quiet, green, cold, sea of clouds. but it's gonna be better if they fix broken toilet door ...


It can be extremely cold so be well prepared. Toilets in campsite E require a steep climb so highly recommended to bring some torchlight and sturdy shoes. Please noted that no alcohol allows in Thai national park.


i recommend you guy who's gonna come here you need to prepare some food and snack cause they didn't sell anything here. You can camp here. The staff has tents for rent and it gonna be the most memorable night and last ... the best time to visit is in late November to early February ( best in December) ... thumb up 👍🏻

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Chiang Mai Thailand

Love this place and spent over an hour here. Once up at the Temple a sign asks you to purchase an entry ticket, but there's no one staffing the ticket office. Great views over the valley and Chiang Mai, and a lovely Temple with many shrines. Fairly quiet when I was there around 9.30am and nice and cool. Before you get to the Temple there are many stalls selling local crafts and beverages. Lots of spaces are available for motorcycle parking.



Beautiful temple and cultural icon. There are great QR codes everywhere where you can learn about the temples, history, and statue meanings. It’s a bit of a hike up the stairs but it’s only a 5min walk so low to moderate fitness would be ok if you’re ok with stairs. If you have injuries or aren’t adept with a large flight of stairs, there is the chair lift but I didn’t try it so not sure what it’s like.




There are heaps of vendors around but please be respectful of the sacred place, no shoulders, knees, or shoes are allowed in the temple and there are more cultural things to be mindful of, especially in the presence of monks. Plus, don’t ring the bells.



All in all, it’s a calm serene place for worship and appreciation. The prices are reasonable, 30B to get in if you’re a foreigner, and the water is 10B. Anything else there are plenty of vendors who could use the support post covid. It must’ve been a hard time for them but as always they’re all really sweet and lovely.

Very beautiful temple, me and my wife came there for a sunrise, and it was amazing! The temple is amazing looking a specially with the morning sun

To get to the temple, there are about 300 steps leading to the entry of the temple. Highly recommended!




Wow... what a place to visit. There was a good size crowd visiting when we arrived. There are many stairs to conquer as you go throughout. I was amazed by the golden architecture. Definitely worth a visit.





Very nice buddha temple with long historical stories, popular for tourist both Thai and Foreign tourists, the best time to be there you can visit the whole year especially the winter in Thailand.




One of the very great places to visit if you are new to Chiang Mai, well but even though I travel to Chiang Mai almost every year I still visit there every time, still enjoy the view up there, the temple is well restoration and maintain. Very beautiful.



Beautiful place to experience Thai culture, and religious beliefs. Better to refrain from wearing shorts and sleeveless to respect their tradition. It's worth spending 1-2 hours. The route to this place from Chiang Mai city is serene, you can ride a bicycle or take a red tuk tuk or even hike up the small hill.



Such a beautiful site. Though busy, it was a beautiful temple, and wonderful to be in the space.
The view from the top of the city was very nice and you can easily grab a taxi to the other sites like bhubing palace and the Hmong village. Have to climb up a lot of steps to get to the top, but it's worth it.


The temple to visit when in Chiangmai, familiarise yourself with the history and origins of Doi Suthep to truly appreciate the significance of this place. Take the flight of twin dragon steps all the way up and make your payment for entry (foreigners only). Take your shoes off and use the lockers when making your way into the main quarters. Donate money in exchange for floral offerings to be placed around the temple. Make it to the back to get a bird's eye view of the old town.



Beautiful temple with good panoramic views of Chiang Mai.
You can go by cable car (20bat) and the fee is 30bat. So cheap for a beautiful temple.



This was an amazing experience. Once you get there you have to walk up a very long flight of stairs but it is worth it. You can buy a flower and candle and say a prayer at the top, and there is a lot to see. Afterward, I took a taxi up to the Hmong hill tribe village and the overlook where you can see Chiang Mai. It is an experience everyone should go see and is super affordable. There are lots and lots of shops and lots of stuff to see!



Amazing view of all of Chiang Mai, you should definitely consider visiting at night time to see it in all its glory.
Also, be prepared to climb a 306 steps stair, there are also cable cars that will take you to the top for 20 that, but don't be a wimp, WALK THE STAIRS! :)
